Week 1: “Working Out Is Worship”
Dr. Asha Fields Brewer

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 KJV – 19What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20For you were bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.

Every work-out is an opportunity for a worship experience.  The temples we have were given to us on loan from God.  We are not the owners, but rather the managers of this estate, and we are therefore responsible for the upkeep and day-to-day operations.  How we maintain or do not maintain the temple is a reflection of our respect for the Owner’s property and the Owner Himself.

FOR OTHERS: We must be mindful of our curb appeal  This is how we present ourselves to others.  If the grass is unkempt, weeds are engulfing the house, and trash is strewn across the lawn, that is negative curb appeal. Likewise, If your health is unkempt, controllable illnesses are out of control, stress is over-taking you, and you have a pill for every letter in the alphabet, that is negative curb appeal. How many people have neglected to turn down your street, or even into your neighborhood, because of your negative curb appeal?  How many people have been turned off from God or neglected to visit Him altogether, because your life reflects the exact opposite of the health and salvation they are seeking?

FOR YOU: Just like you meet God in your worship, meet Him in your workout.  Show Him how appreciative you are of this temple.  Actively demonstrate praise with  the use of your limbs and unified function of your organs.  Honor Him by treating His property well, and presenting it well to others.  Allow God to get glory out of your body and your spirit, which are His. Make your workouts yet another opportunity to worship to Him.

Some benefits of physical activity:
*Increase your worship endurance and your praise stamina.
*Better mood and disposition
*Stress relief
*General health and wellness
*Weight management
*Decrease chemical dependence (medications and other addictions)
*Detoxify your system

*What are some others you can think of?
