TFR Episode #9 Recap- The Basics of Insurance

Temple Fit Radio Episode #9 Recap
“The Basics of Insurance”
Aired on 10/2/2013

Here are some highlights for you!
  • Scripture Reference
    • Luke 14: 28-30 ESV 28For which of you, desiring to build a tower, does not first sit down and count the cost, whether he has enough to complete it? 29Otherwise, when he has laid a foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, 30saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish.’

  • Terms to understand
    • Provider– Your physician has signed a contract with your insurance company to provide certain services at a specific rate.
    • Deductible– A minimum you must meet in payment as a patient before your insurance company starts to contribute more towards your services.
    • Covered vs. Not Covered– Certain services will be “covered” by your insurance plan, meaning your insurance company will contribute towards the payment of these services. This can be general treatment or examinations, lab tests, etc.
    • Co-Pay– This is a flat rate you pay for the services received based on your insurance policy. If your policy does not have a co-pay, your fee payment is calculated in a different way.
    • Maximum– This can mean maximum visits or maximum amount of money paid. When this number of visits is reached, or once the insurance company has contributed this amount of money overall, they will no longer contribute towards the services you receive.
